Horses and riders from four states will jump for joy Oct. 17 to raise funds for special needs children participating in equine-assisted therapy at Horses for Healing in Bentonville.

“Our equine team travels to many horse shows, but the October Charity Show is special because we are jumping so the therapy program students can stay in the saddle,” said Amy Walsh, Horses for Healing sports riding manager.

The show Saturday and Sunday will start at 9 a.m., and admission is free. The Northwest Arkansas Hunter Jumper Association will provide classes at the event.

“Children with a wide variety of disabilities gain strength, balance and coordination while on horseback,” said Horses for Healing Executive Director Linda Brown. “Some take their first halting steps or speak their first words after therapy here.”

Children receive one-on-one time with their volunteer team and instructors at Horses for Healing.

Horses for Healing is the first therapeutic riding center in Arkansas to be accredited by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association and is a full-service boarding and training facility with 23 stalls, rolling pastures and a covered arena over 75 acres.
