Feline Rescue and Rehome collected more than $1,000 Saturday night at The Afterthought, which featured the mellow, rockin’ stylings of Brenda and Ellis.

Alex, head library cat at the Arkansas School for the Blind and unofficial FURR mascot, greeted guests and passersby in his faux fur-lined green hoodie.

“He’s definitely attracted some people,” said Alex’s owner and FURR board member Susan Loesch. “He’s a little grumpy getting the jacket on, but once it’s on, he’s content.” (more…)

Nearly everyone who passed by The Afterthought on Monday night wanted to touch Alex, who seemed to take it for granted and eagerly leaned in for more attention.

As an ambassador for Feline Rescue and Rehome, Alex, whose day job as library cat at the Arkansas School for the Blind affords him plenty of petting, greeted those attending Jazz for Cats at the bar. The show featured Little Rock jazz musician Lee Tomboulian and raised an estimated $1,000 for FURR, said group member Susan Loesch. (more…)

18-lb, cuddly Cupcake craving new family

Cupcake watched as her family packed up their belongings and moved out of their rented Bryant home. She waited for them to come back for her, but they never did.

The owner of the house discovered her and let her outside, where she had never ventured, according to neighbors, during the storms Hurricane Ike hauled across Arkansas last week. (more…)

Dog saved as shelter marks 1st anniversary

With tails awag and faces painted, pets and supporters of The Little Rock Animal Village marked its first anniversary Saturday as rescuers teamed up with the shelter’s vet to save one dog’s life.

A call came in about 12:30 p.m. to Cindy Paxton, volunteer for the birthday celebration and for Out of the Woods Rescue and Referral, that a very pregnant beagle was roaming the highway in an unincorporated area of Pulaski County. (more…)
