KALAMAZOO, Mich. — A dog has died after being drenched with toxic household cleaners by a burglar in Michigan.

Nancy Sheppard was at work Tuesday when someone entered her home in Kalamazoo and poured the liquids over her dachshund mix Lucky. A neighbor noticed Sheppard’s front door open and called the police. (more…)

BENTON — A Saline County dog breeder accused of mistreating dozens of canines pleaded innocent to 85 counts of animal cruelty Thursday.

With tails awag and faces painted, pets and supporters of The Little Rock Animal Village marked its first anniversary Saturday as rescuers teamed up with the shelter’s vet to save one dog’s life.

A call came in about 12:30 p.m. to Cindy Paxton, volunteer for the birthday celebration and for Out of the Woods Rescue and Referral, that a very pregnant beagle was roaming the highway in an unincorporated area of Pulaski County. (more…)

City seeks damages after cop left dog in car

SAN DIEGO — City Attorney Michael Aguirre on Friday filed a civil complaint in San Diego Superior Court seeking damages from Officer Paul Hubka, whose police dog died of heat stroke while left in Hubka’s squad car.

Aguirre wants Hubka to pay the cost of acquiring and training a replacement for his dog. He said the cost exceeds $25,000. (more…)
